The Nuriootpa Yard Crane Cont.

Well the crane is now finished. It got its coat of paint tonight. I used Floquil Red Oxide for the Jig and Floquil Concrete for the base. Below is the finished product. I added the metal track along the base in which the jig rotates on. I did this using a thin brown texta which I traced around the base.

The Nuriootpa Yard Crane.

As mentioned in a previous post, I am working on a Yard Crane for Nuriootpa yard. This is now almost complete. I have built this in two pieces. the jib itself and the base. This makes it much easier for painting.

Below is the crane in real life and below it, the model.

A quick sketch

Just a quick update. Below is one of the first track plans.

An Introduction to the Model Railway.

Gday Everyone,
For a few years now I have been very interested in the Nuriootpa- Angaston Railway in South Australia. As the years have past, and the history of the railway line is being lost, I wanted to re-create the railway line in HO scale.

At the present time, the layout is in its planning stage. I have a 3m x 4m room to work with which means I am relatively pressed for space. My ideas so far include having Nuriootpa in the centre of the room with the junction to Penrice and Angaston going in seperate directions around the walls. These will have a slight grade eventually elevating Angaston above Nuriootpa. The line will include the Limestone quarry on one branchline and the Cement works on the other leading to Angaston.

I have recently started creating rollingstock for the layout and am starting on some infrastructure. The stone hoppers are Strath Hobbies kits, which look very respectable with some added details, as do the Strath Hobbies Cement wagons. The first piece of infrasture built is a SAR 5 Ton rotating Jib crane from Strath Hobbies.

Locomotives will include two 900 Class locomotives, a trainorama 930, multiple 830's, and coming next year, a SAR Rx Class Steamer. Other visiting locomotives will also appear on the layout at some point in time.

Will post more info soon.
